ReVir Project - Virtual Networks on Future Internet
The paradigm of virtual networks is a proposal for the Future Internet, because it provides flexibility in the network core, which allows different application requirements to be met. This paradigm allows numerous virtual network elements to co-exist on a single physical machine. However, there are also big challenges to be overcome so that the new network can became a reality. The ReVir project is a research effort on Virtual Networks for the Future Internet. The main objectives of this project include proposing systems, mechanisms, services, and applications in order to tackle different research challenges of the area. The project operates on different layers of the architecture of virtual networks and aims to provide:
- a programmable network infrastructure;
- network virtualization tools with different features in different layers according to applications requirements;
- a secure network infrastructure with isolation among the virtual networks;
- tools to control and manage the network that allow ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) on virtualized networks.
